Fiat Lux

Roman Theatre - 2025

Antoni Arola

‘Let there be light’ in Latin. This is the name given to Arola’s project, which will cover the Roman Theatre of Zaragoza with a halo of light. By means of lasers, smoke and a series of interactive elements, with this piece, created ad hoc for Festival Luce, observers are surrounded by a volumetric and changeable space that takes them to a parallel universe through light.

The work

In the heart of the Roman Theatre, ‘Fiat Lux’ encourages audiences to delve into a universe of light that arouses their senses and raises their awareness. This immersive installation turns everyday life into an extraordinary experience, creating a space where light is the main language and visitors play an active role in a unique illusion.

‘Fiat Lux’, whose title means ‘let there be light’ in Latin, uses a combination of lasers, smoke and interactive elements to build a universe where light becomes a sensory language. In this work, the Roman Theatre of Zaragoza is transformed into an ephemeral setting for interaction between art and architecture. Arola opens up a constant dialogue between the absence and presence of light, creating dynamic subspaces that emerge, mutate and disappear, blurring the boundaries of what is tangible and intangible.
